Fresh 48 Photography Sessions: What to Expect & How to Prepare

Fresh 48 Photography Sessions

Erin Blake Photography

Bringing a new baby into the world is one of life’s most extraordinary moments. The first hours after birth are filled with raw emotion, sweet connections, and details that pass by in the blink of an eye. That’s where Fresh 48 photography sessions come in—a beautiful way to preserve the story of those fleeting hours.

If you're in Shreveport/Bossier, Louisiana and considering booking a Fresh 48 session or have one scheduled soon, here’s everything you need to know about what to expect and how to prepare for this intimate and meaningful experience.

What Is a Fresh 48 Session?

A Fresh 48 session is a lifestyle photography shoot that takes place within the first 24 to 48 hours after your baby’s birth. It’s usually held in your hospital room, birth center, or home (if you’ve had a home birth) in Shreveport/Bossier, Louisiana (and surrounding areas), and it’s designed to document your baby’s very first days.

Unlike posed newborn photography, Fresh 48 sessions are more candid and documentary-style. They focus on the natural moments—tiny yawns, first feedings, little hospital bracelets, and the new bond between parents and baby.

What to Expect During the Session

1. Timing:
These sessions typically last 45–90 minutes. I’ll come to your location at a time when you’re comfortable and your baby is calm—usually during the day when natural light is best.

2. Atmosphere:
The mood is relaxed and unobtrusive. I’ll gently guide you into good light or a cozy pose, but there’s no need to stress about looking perfect. This is all about capturing the real and the beautiful in this once-in-a-lifetime moment.

3. Family Involvement:
Partners and siblings are absolutely encouraged to participate. Seeing an older sibling meet the new baby for the first time is pure magic.

4. No Posing Required:
There’s no need to worry about props, poses, or complicated outfits. The focus is on emotion, connection, and details—the wrinkly toes, the soft swaddles, the proud glances.

How to Prepare

1. Keep It Simple:
You don’t need to clean or stage your space. A quick tidy near the bed and windows is more than enough. Natural light is key, so opening blinds or curtains before I arrive helps immensely.

2. What to Wear:
Choose soft, neutral tones or solid colors that you feel good in. A robe, a simple nursing tank, or a comfy dress are great options. For your partner and children, soft colors work best too—nothing too bold or busy. The goal is to keep the focus on the emotion and your new baby.

3. Baby’s Outfit:
A swaddle, a plain onesie, or even just a diaper with a blanket is perfect. Keep it simple to highlight those fresh baby details like wrinkled hands and fuzzy shoulders.

4. Be Yourself:
There’s no pressure to “perform” or look perfect. Whether your hair is up, you’re makeup-free, or your baby is cluster feeding—this is your story, and it’s beautiful just as it is.

Why It Matters

Babies change so quickly in those first few days. A Fresh 48 session captures the emotion, tenderness, and reality of those first introductions—before the days blur together. These are the photos that will take you back, years later, to the moment your family grew.

Final Thoughts

Fresh 48 sessions are about preserving your baby’s story from the very beginning—no filters, no perfection, just pure love. If you’re preparing to welcome a new little one and want to remember these early moments forever, I’d be honored to help you capture them.
